How do you deal with rude and small minded people at work?

How can you collaborate/work with like-minded people when you are surrounded by people who don't give a damn to Science(or say your field of interest)?

  I am faced with the same problem. Here's what I've done: At work: I listen to science podcasts and frequently turn the conversations with co-workers toward science. It's my responsibility to make those conversations interesting. At home: We have two granddaughters in college. I always ask about their studies and spend time talking about the science they've learned. I had a great conversation on during the 4th of July about redshifts and dark matter/energy. At church: When I hear someone talking about creationism and science, I gently point out what the issues actually are and cite the claims from both sides. Online: I more or less gave up on Facebook and joined Quora. At school: I completed an online masters degree program in Life Sciences and I'm taking classes at the local Community College. I'm also enrolling in another online masters program (a cheap one). Blogs & podcasts - lots of opportunities exist here for unlimited interaction with like-minded and, when the mood strikes, argumentative people who are way smarter and better educated than I am.
