What needs to be done to curb autorickshaw drivers in India from conning people all the time? Will taxi services like ola slowly make the autorickshaw drivers irrelevant?

There are still some cities where auto-rickshaw drivers are not as unruly as you made it to be, come to Mumbai or any city where you have shared auto system, India is a land of laws and I presume there is a mandate for most of the cities which specifies this type of treatment as illegal, the only problem is as in most cases , this simply is not enforced. usually if you get cops involved you won't be harassed, at a macro level there could be a city-wide helpline to report such incidences which would reduce such instances by a huge margin

Bombay is still good for autos. In fact, it's more easier to catch an auto here than anything else. But if I am in some other city, be it Delhi, Bangalore, Goa, Jaipur: Olacabs is my go to service! Not advertising it but I can really rely on their drivers in an unknown city!

Chennai is notorious for auto drivers - erratic and arrogant.  Most of these are bought and run by the policemen and hence this attitude.  Google Android has an app for Bangalore autos,  the users can just enter the number and the information is given to the authorities who keep warning them.  Besides a honest police would create awareness of customer acceptance to a great extent.

Ola / Uber can't make autos irrelevant What they surely can do - Make them more relevant! Autos is just another type of mode of transportation like taxi. Taxis of metro cities were equally infamous for conning people before the time, radio taxis became comfortable and handy. With cheaper, more flexible, user-friendly technology created for radio transport services, autorickshaw services are in transition to get transformed as well. Why they con people? - Because they can - anyone in this world try to maximize their earnings. In fact, Just because they conned people, is the reason at first place behind the success of radio transport services. As you might notice, radio auto are being launched in cities famous for 'conning by autowallahs' like Delhi and Bangalore first rather than Mumbai, where they believe in earning hard earned money! What can be done? - Is already being done organically without any bureaucracy, law or police involvement
