Do peoples in Paris, France play sports?

Do you think our obsession with professional/college sports is damaging to society?

  • I'm not talking about participating in sports, which I think is a very good thing. I'm talking about how sports have become such a huge part of peoples' lives. For example, its not just watching sports, but watching people talk about sports, participating in fantasy leagues, betting on sports, reading sports news constantly, etc. I think it's great if people play sports, but I find the obsession of watching sports silly. What kind of impact do sports have on our society?

It makes sports super interesting to imagine them as fulfilling some deep seeded desire for war and battle, only in our case nobody dies. Either way Radiolab is always worth a listen. Long story short I don't think it's damaging at all.
