Why doesn't NPM (Node Package Manager) use modules rating to avoid modules that are not followed, not updated, incorrect, low quality?

Most node modules have a corresponding github repository. You can check that repository to see how often it has been updated, how popular it is, etc.

Because there is a much better metric, which is the usage statistic, as in used in x other modules. Read the book from the Yahoo guys about rating systems, that will give you a good insight why ratings are super complicated.

these are not really good metrics. i use plenty of modules that i neither follow nor watch on github and have not been updated in a while. why? because they are that good.
