Depends how new you want your music. Soundcloud has emerged as the most innovative music platform online, allowing anyone to publish music, but also attracting established artists. It has got really good social features that allow you to share, comment, follow, be followed, subscribe to groups, etc...

Blogs are a bad place. I like using streaming services which include user-curated content. Grooveshark and Spotify are two particularly good ones, and they fill different niches for me. On Grooveshark, I find it easier to bounce through genres, landing on something new and fascinating. This is aided by how "user-centric" it is - it's a very normal thing for me to be listening to someone else's broadcast. Spotify, on the other hand, is better if I have a specific recording I want to hear - as a fan of classical music, this is important to me.

I use http://www.last.fm, because it's pretty much automatic. As with any recommendation engine, it's a two-step process: listen and discover. Listen When you play your music with a compatible "AudioScrobbler" plug-in or phone app (it works on a huge combination of operating systems and players), your listening data is collected for you in the background. You can check your collected data on the website and tweak it (mark favorites with a â¤ï¸ and delete unwanted entries.) Discover You can get recommendations already based on a single song. Just navigate to the song's page on the website and in most cases, there will be a list of half a dozen similar tracks. After listening to some tracks for a while, http://last.fm will also start recommending artists. These recommendations are tagged by genres, so you can easily decide where to go next. If you want to go one step further and discover hidden gems, look at who your neighbors are. These people have similar listening tastes as you, but are bound to have one or two artists on their playlist that you haven't heard of - yet. Enjoy!

I use RapRadar for new popular and some under-the-radar rap & hip-hop.

It really depends on the type of music you enjoy as most websites will curate their reviews and music critiques to specific genres. A couple that seem to be relatively popular are http://www.hypem.com and http://www.pitchfork.com. If your friends have a similar taste in music as you, possibly consider using Spotify as you can see what they are currently listening to and you can also view their playlists. I personally have been using Spotify as they have a couple great features I love. The first being their dedicated Discover page that suggests songs and artists based on what you've listened to in the past. They've been pretty spot on with their suggestions for me personally. The second being their "Related Artists" tab that they have for every single artist available. I basically just click through each artist and see if I like them. Sometimes music discovery can be tedious but when you find the one you love, it's all worth it.

For a personal radio like experience try http://musicmonk.in Musicmonk intelligently categorizes the music available on YouTube into several thousand playlists. When you listen to music, it analyses your listening behavior to seamlessly switch between playlists and play the next song best suiting your mood. Musicmonk reorganizes its playlists dynamically based on how much a user listens to each song played, hence it is better than the YouTube "auto-play" feature
