How do I scan or fax something that's really long?

Are there any all-in-one printers that can fax over the Internet?

  • Specifically, I can scan in something that I want to fax and it'll send the fax over IP via a gateway to end up at a phone number tethered fax machine? The reason being I don't have a home line and don't want to get one just so that I can fax (rarely).

  • Answer:

You'd really want to take the recommendation over whomever you choose that provides FoIP service.  The standards abound, and no public service or standard really reached a high enough adoption rate to be deployed into all-in-one printers.  HP made a big push with JetSend but ultimately punted (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpj06795&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=84199).  It's hard to foster innovation in a dying technology, especially when fighting free alternatives like scan-and-email.

Short of large, expensive "corporate scale" machines, most of the Bother MFC line and some Lexmarks can do this, when paired with an Internet Fax Service. FaxLogic supports these all-in-ones with our Personal service plans, at $6/month for low volume use (and it probably goes without saying, but no phone line is needed).
