What are some websites like Monster?

Does these job listing websites like monster.com or careerbuilder.com actually help people getting jobs?

  • Are they actually helping people land an interview from recruiters or most of it is just fake data, or may be authentic, but application never reaches recruiter?

  • Answer:

The question seems very similar to asking whether a Pizza Hut and Domino's would be able to serve Pizza or not. Getting a job is based on factor's like: a. Right fitment against the Job Applied b. Resume c. Number of Candidates applying and out of that where does your CV / Resume stand at. There are 2 things websites like Monster and other's do is a. Resume Database & Job Posting. When you register with websites like monster you get registered to apply for various jobs available on the website and have your cv searched by 10000s of Companies looking for right candidate. Most of the leading websites worldwide does not publish fake jobs as each and every postings are audited for authenticity and companies pay a lot to get their job published. If we talk about fake job posting then why cannot a news paper ad be fake. None of them are fake it is just that whether your CV fits the Job requirement is question. We are in a competitive world and for every job posted you would be having more than 500+ application and believe me atleast 50% don't match the requirement as most people apply job based on the Brand of the Organisation, Fancy Designation but seldom people read the requirement and check whether it is matching his CV. So HR usually don't screen candidate even after good credentials as it does not match the job requirement. I could be an MBA from Harvard but will I fit a requirement of a COO of an OIL company with 25+years experience, the answer is I will not. Hence it is very important to read the Job description appropriately and check whether it matches your CV. If it does then only apply. Apart from the right application also important is that you have your CV made in the right manner. You might fit the requirement but in some way your CV does not speak about it clearly so you would be rejected as the HR is not able to figure out whether you meet the requirement. Hope this helped :)

They can, but you have to first understand the recruiting system from a company's point of view.  Best candidates come from personal referrals from employees with good track records within a company (even if the candidate is external).  Then company recruiters look at whatever ends up in their "inbox" -- depending on how the company has solicited jobs, it can be emails with your resume in response to a job description, or it can be you applying to a job on the company's website.  From here, it gets murky (less clear).  If a recruiter isn't finding the right people applying, she may go to "the mass market" - Monster, CareerBuilder, Dice, GlassDoor, Indeed, Beyond, Simply Hired, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, etc.  Many companies pay to have access to these job sites where they can search for specific skills and pull up resumes of those who have uploaded them to those sites.I wouldn't say any of them are "fake data," but posting your resume to these websites means you're just one among millions of others looking for jobs, hoping to be found.  So make sure you take advantage of opportunities to enter skills and keywords, if allowed, because that's what a recruiter would be searching for.Note there are also 3rd party "recruiters" who represent no company that want to link you up with a company.

http://www.monsterindia.com/ - Monster's Site. Or any other site for example. If you sign In and apply, 75% of the times you will not be getting a call directly from the company you will have applied. It will be a job consultancy firm. So, basically, the feed coming to the consultancy firm will be a little bit old. It might be a 2 weeks to a month old. So, after applying, the person will be having a 50-50 chance of  getting a interview. This is because the post applied for will mostly be  filled. Even if not filled, the quality of the job which are shown are not the most required for the company. After 1 -2 months of wait after applying in the career portals, your job will always depend on your luck because the interview is always in your hand. So, in a short note, NO- All these sites are not so worth it. It is much better getting through referrals, trying on your own.

Thanks for A2A.The job listing websites indicates that there are some vacancies in that particular company. Generally there are too many things that happen behind the scenes than actually seen. I am not certain about this practise in all the companies but I can vouch that this happens in most of the companies. Say a big MNC has a opening, then a consultancy speaks to MNC and says it will fill the post and starts headhunting. If a MNC does not have a dedicated HR Team for headhunting, it will take the services of a local firm which is good at headhunting. Generally Consultancy tries to bridge the gap between the supply and demand. I got an interview call from a company which was acquired by Google. I did the following. There was an opening in that company. It was a time i was actively looking for a change. In their website, there was a career section and I had applied there. I got a call from a consultancy stating that I had applied for that particular post and they scheduled an interview. I had applied on a job listing website and I did get several calls from a recruiter/consultancy regarding the opening and an interview was scheduled. What I have noticed is this, In Job listing websites, there are numerous fake listings of companies to gathers the Resumes of people in order to supply good people for a company. They try to be equipped with resumes so that as and when there is a need, they can service it. Most of the time, the companies need good candidates urgently especially in Service Companies. In product companies they actively look for people. In short, it is by luck that you get a call from these websites. There is a hack for this. Every 2 weeks once, you delete your resume and reupload the same. This keeps your resume fresh and you will be easily seen by most of the headhunters.Hope this helps.

NO they don't. They are money spinners. It is you who need to be good for the position available and prove it in a slightly excited but mostly in a matter-of-fact way. Direct reference works the best.
