What is the best way to start a blog?

What is the best way to start a style/fashion blog if you don't have a lot of money to buy a good camera? How do you get people to look at and take interest in your blog?

  This is going to sound like I'm being an asshole but I promise, I am not. The best way to start a style/fashion blog is quite simple: START IT. No matter how vulnerable or out in the open you may feel when you start writing, no matter how important it may seem to know what you are doing from the start, it is not.  As you mention in your question, your biggest challenge is going to be getting people to take notice of your blog. Therefore, you lose nothing by writing an imperfect post when you have no following. Start a blog, figure out what you like writing about, what kind of voice you want your blog to have, who you are writing to. Experiment. If you have three ideas for what your blog should be, start 3 blogs, write 10 posts for each and read each blog from post 1 to 10. Determine which you like best, which you enjoyed most, why? Maybe these made you realize there is another perspective you should explore. Do that... Then write more. Take a look at your favorite bloggers and go waaaaaay back in their archives if they've left them up.  Look at their first posts. They are most likely not nearly the same quality as the posts you now know and love. Guess what: it took them time, effort, practice to refine their blog to what it is today. They made mistakes, they had posts that bombed, they had posts that helped them realize they were on the right path but what matters is at some point they made the decision to start. You too have made the decision to start a blog so just write your first post. Tonight. Right now. As for the camera question, you don't even need to take your own photos. Some bloggers are great photographers and terrible writers. Others are great writers but terrible photographers or don't own a camera. Some might not be great writers or photographers but have keen insights into trends (if you're writing for women) or do incredible thorough research on the heritage of some type clothing item (if you're writing for men). If you don't have a talent for photography or writing, outwork your competition. Do more research, go to more events, figure out what you can provide that is missing from the dialog. The hardest part is standing out from the thousands of other bloggers. Ultimately, it is going to come down to a combination of skill and luck. Do the simple things to set yourself apart: be consistent in frequency/topic/style. Tons of people start blogs, write a few posts and then quit. By not quitting, you're already further ahead of tens of thousands of others. This part could be a whole answer in and of itself.
