Would it be possible to make a single bit flash memory from store-bought or easily available parts, to demonstrate how flash memory works?

Answer:
No. Flash (and EEPROM) use a technology called "floating gate transistor" to store the data. You'd somehow need to create a similar transistor, and whilst it is theoretically possible, it certainly wouldn't be something you'd be able to easily do at home.
