The chances that you will do technical work (coding, architecting, debugging) with B.Tech are high. It is possible that even after fifteen twenty years, you will be coding for small but maybe complex projects. And you will very likely not be strategizing, or making big financial or people decisions. If you are good, you will be well (but not highly) paid for what you do. As an MBA, you will learn bit more while getting the degree. You will get placed into more business related jobs that are less about implementing the strategy (like engineering work) but more about making it. Your work will be more abstract than engineering. Sometimes, you would not even know what you are contributing to the world ( like, while buying and selling securities in an investment bank). You will likely have lower tie-in to your job profile and that can mean easy replaceability. But, depending on which area you work in, on average, the chance that you could be making high impact decisions will be higher than as an engineer. Usually, you will make more money than an equally experienced engineer. But you might also be working lot more hours. For me, as an engineer + mid-career MBA, getting chance to build something is quite important. It is hard for me to go home with a feeling of not building something. Before you make a choice, you may want to sit down and figure out what excites you. And then decide.

Yes it is worth. Not only package but growth opportunities inside the company can differ significantly if a person compares a B Tech CSE from IIT's and a MBA grad from the Top 3 IIM's. I myself graduated from IIT with B Tech in computer science(and am placed in one of the Top tech MNC) and some of my batchmates did MBA from one of the Top 3 IIM's. Their(ppl with MBA) current pay checks and the amount of responsibility they get and amount of impact that they can make at their workplace differ significantly from mine.

After CS from IIT, you would be better off going for MS from a top US univ. If you are really keen on MBA, target places like Harvard, Wharton & Stanford after 4-5 years of workex. While top Finance & Consulting firms may match the compensation offered by top tech firms, work-life balance is much better in tech firms. Hence, if you are interested in tech, stay there :) Doing an MBA generally has the following benefits: 1. Networking: You gain awesome contacts which can be leveraged later in your career. 2. Function Shift: People bored with their current domains can move to Finance, Consulting or Marketing. 3. Career Progression: If your technical job is stagnant, MBA allows you to move to Marketing, Sales & Consulting roles. You could also move to project management roles much faster. 4. Everything else they tell you is just jazz :)
