How to control the excessive use of ram by SQL Server?

Can a Windows Server host any program designed for Windows OS?

  • I am investigating to see if it is possible to use a Windows Server hosting service to run my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) remotely/over the internet via a tablet or netbook (possibly using the Open Sound Control (OSC) protocol) but I am a complete n00b when it comes to anything server-related. I can't locate a clear and direct answer for this question as it is so simple that no one has ever even asked it.  The state of these native programs is a world above what is available as "apps" but these virtual synthesizers (VSTs) need to be hosted by a DAW which in turn runs on either a Windows or Mac OS. Since Adobe has gone to the cloud this is the last reason I need a heavy-spec'd machine (i.e lots of RAM, fastest processor) and was hoping to avoid needlessly purchasing a high-end desktop-replacement style laptop. Thanks!

You can probably get away with it. You'll need a way to stream display, mouse and keyboard data (using remote desktop connection or VLC) and audio (does remote desktop support audio? if not, you can check out http://netjack.sourceforge.net/). However, I can anticipate that the audio latency is going to be horribly slow and you'll also have many dropouts from UDP packages that fail to travel between the two machines. Also relevant: the guys at Bitwig have been advertising an internet jam feature of their software that you might leverage to achieve what you want. There is also stuff like http://www.audiotool.com/ In short, we're not there yet, keep a capable computer for your DAW.

I'm confused. You want to host the DAW on a machine, stream the display to a laptop, and then record via laptop but have it record back on the DAW?

For applications where numerous intelligent clients are at the same time imparting a solitary working framework, standard Microsoft Windows Server authorizing applies. This implies that the imparted host machine (or virtual machine) runs a Microsoft Windows Server working framework. Also a Microsoft Windows Server Client Access License (WS CAL) and a Microsoft Remote Desktop Services Client Access License (RDS CAL – once known as a Microsoft Terminal Services Client Access License or TS CAL) are needed for each one end-client or gadget that gets to Windows Server (and for the host machine if the host machine is utilized as a client station). Likewise, Microsoft's Windows Multipoint Server can be utilized and rather obliges a Windows Multipoint Server CAL (WMS CAL) for each one right to gain entrance gadget (and for the host machine if the host machine is utilized as a client station).(1) The graph demonstrates a sample arrangement with five clients offering a solitary machine running Windows Multipoint Serve http://www.ixwebhosting.com/windows-hosting-features
