Many of the characters who die later in the books, or not dead yet in the first five books were shown to be dead in the series. I am not including people who died later in the series than in the books (Orell), and not counting missing characters (two Tyrell sons and four Seaworth sons). I am not sure which four GRRM was talking about, but these are a few: The Tickler (dies later in the books) Ser Amory Lorch (dies later in the books) Joyeuse Erenford (Walder Frey's wife, still alive) Talisa Maegyr (Jeyne Westerling in the series, still alive) Pyat Pree (Still alive) Rakharo (Still alive) Mero (dies later in the books) Irri (still alive in the books) Ros (A combination of Ros from Winterfell and Alayaya, both alive) Mago (still alive) Silver (Drogo's wedding gift to Dany, still alive) Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Not entirely sure if he is dead, but he has been locked inside his vault. Alive in the books)

[Moved from the redirected question which had included season 4] Yes, there are several of them. Robb's wife, Grenn, Pyp, Jojen (there are some theories here, though), Irri, Xaro Xoan Daxos (and in Dany's storyline I've generally lost count of who should be dead or alive and isn't. Same goes for people on Arya's list, because her story in season 2 was completely changed some people there swapped and I no longer remember if there is someone she has yet to kill in the books but not in the show.) [updated for season 5] Now there is a few of characters killed only by the show: Mance Rayder, Ser Barristan, Meryn Trant, Hizdhar zo Loraq, Shireen, Selyse, Stannis (if he died) and Myrcella. Though maybe some of them will die in the book, too.

Doran and Trystane MartellIn the series it is shown that Doran Martell is stabbed by Ellaria Sands, but in the book Doran Martell is playing a bigger role as he is cautiously planning and plotting with the Sand Snakes under his command. Whereas, Ellaria Sand doesn’t even want any more bloodshed. The Stannis Baratheon familyStannis is still alive and is planning to wage war against the Bolton host as his forces diminish due to winter. Shereen Baratheon and Selyse Baratheon are also alive and are currently living in Castle Black.Barristan SelmyBarristan the Bold(or old) is still alive and is trying to keep Mereen under control and is trying to punish those who he suspects to be guilty in matters of poisoning Daenerys’s food.Myrcella and Tommen BaratheonMyrcella is “only” missing an ear otherwise she is still alive and so is Tommen.Jojen ReedHe is still alive and is living with the Children of the Forest.
