What is the preference order of dual degree programs with respect to easier grades, more useful in placements and getting a better engineering degree(Computer Science)?

One of my cousin is getting admitted in to BITS.,he is very much interested in computer science. Suggest a dual degree which is easier (unlike Maths and Physics) . Please suggest the dual so that he can score well to get in to Computer Science. Currently available Courses: 1.Biological Sciences 2.Chemistry 3.Economics 4.Mathematics 5.Physics

Answer:
Easier Grades for getting CS - The course structure and grading for every discipline is same in 1st year - so take any it won't matter. More useful in placements - With Computer Science it is undoubtedly Mathematics. Otherwise Eco. Easiest (In 3rd Year) - Chemistry. Toughest (In 3rd Year) - Mathematics. Best Discipline among 5 if interested in pure science - Bio. You won't get everything in any one of them.. Choose according to your priorities.

In my batch there were around 7-8 students who got their http://M.scsc degree changed(including me ). So the change was from mainly Bio, Chemistry to 1. Eco 2. Maths (me and other 3 ) 3. Physics ( one girl bcoz of interest) In terms of interest , I guess Bio is the most interesting in Pilani , teachers are also good , some of them have dropped their B.E. degree for further studies in Bio. In terms of easiness and also interesting Economics will be the top preference Placements : in Pilani : I guess still your B.E. degree is the judging criteria for it So I would suggest if you want to take Msc. go with your interest :)

1) First year course structure is the same. The MSc makes no difference to getting the engineering dual of his choice 2) Grades- let him pick what he likes, he'll do better in them by staying motivated. That said, Math and Physics are tougher than the others. 3) Placement: Econ gets your preference for some few, but highly sought after job offers and PS2 stations. Math makes you eligible for a few coding companies (Though this is not that useful if you already manage to get a CS/EE dual) 4) Don't be so damn myopic while picking duals. Passion is important. Tell him to be idealistic while picking his degree at least. The MSc also allows him to pursue lots of other career paths apart from your typical software engg/MBA routes, why take that away over a couple of grades or placement opportunities that probably won't matter much a year or two after graduation?

You're getting it wrong.Ask him to take the dual out of his interest. Its not something like you take maths as your degree and you need to study/score in maths in your first year and get your dual based on that performance.Everybody who joins under the dual degree programme study the same set of common courses and that performance would be taken into consideration while alloting the duals.Take a look at the course structure once. You'll get a better idea.

step 1 - Log in to BITS 360 and contact a senior step 2 - Ask them for course handouts... all of them... step 3 - repeat for all pure sciences you are interested in step 4 - Evaluate the topics . Rank them on whether you like them or not, and also if you see yourself happy with them step 5 - Fill form Step 6 - make sure you study in your first year to get desired dual Explanation - Your stream will not get you placed. Your knowledge will. Tonnes of people with EnI are better than most CS coders. Tonnes of CS folks are better at thermodynamics than most mech folks. Take what you know you can be good at . Get good at it . Everything else will fall into place.
