Don't stuff keywords. A high number of placements won't help any more than having an appropriate number of keyword placements, and it will likely penalize you. The best way to look is in terms of "authority." What will make your website the best authority in your sector or niche? Of course, the best way is through the constant production or regular, quality content that will be cited and obtain links from other sites in your sector. But there are other ways. Are there popular, recognized lists of good companies in your sector that are published and curated by a recognized authority? Try to get on that list. (Note: NOT random, junk directories.) Increase the number of quality Twitter followers and Facebook "likes." Create a Google+ page and community for your company, and link the page to your website. If you're a local business, use Google Local/Places best practices to get found in local search. Sponsor a local charity and get a link from its website. Make sure your address and contact information is on all pages (such as in the header or footer). Optimize your Google+ page. Obtain press coverage. Because of what is being called co-occurance or co-citation, mentions of your brand online even without a link are noticed by Google and will help you -- but only if the topic of the site mentioning you is related to what you do.
