What is jet lag?

What's the best way to deal with jet lag for an infant?

  • What's the best way to help reduce jet lag for an infant (6mo-1yr)?

  • Answer:

Unless you have to travel a long distance, don't until the baby is older, say old enough to remember the trip.  I considered that to be about age four for my children.  If you have to cross an ocean for a compelling reason while your child is so young (such as a parent's funeral or for medical treatment not available in your part of the world), then jet lag is probably the least of your worries.

Having taken our youngest (some time ago)  before the first birthday from San Francisco to India, I think that the baby will be just fine and does not care about whether he/she is airborne or on the ground. The cabin pressure does not seem to bother them at this age too much. I think the bigger challenge is for others in the group - I would suggest that you take proper meds from the pediatrician, just in case. Also make sure that there are other adults to help you as well. Children at this age do not get too affected by the jet lag, per se and their sleep/wake cycle realigns quickly!
