What are the best and cheapest things in Thailand?

What are the best things to do and see in Thailand on a 2 week trip?

  • I am considering a 2 week trip to Thailand (in November) with my partner. We would definitely like to spend a few days on the beach (3-4 days?) and I assume we will spend 1 day in Bangkok. We are interested in some culture and some nature (no extreme trekking). Any recommendations for places to see and things to do in the limited time?

  • Answer:

Two weeks will be enough time to cover a decent amount of Thailand and get a taste of what the country has. My brother recently visited me here for 2 weeks and this is close to the itinerary we had (swapping out partying excessively for couples activities). Presuming you arrive in Bangkok, I would give yourselves 2 days and 1 night here. Day 1-Starting off around Khao San Road have a look at the market stalls catering to tourists for all of your souvenir needs. After an hour or so you can hire a long tail boat to take to you along the river, for a private boat this will cost around 200 baht ($6). Request the driver to drop you off at the pier nearest Chinatown. Chinatown is quite the site for seeing including markets ranging from car parts to sex toys to watches to tasers, have a look at the daily life here while sampling some delicious and strange street food and check out the temples along the way. From here take a motorbike taxi or tuk tuk to MBK (150b) which is one of Bangkoks major shopping malls catering to locals and tourists alike (or head to Siam Square for high end stores). If you get to MBK on a Thursday they also have free Muay Thai at 7pm. At night you can return to Khao San Road or go to Siam to get a taste of Bangkoks nightlife. Day 2- Spend the day touring Bangkoks incredible temples and Buddhas, ranging from Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, Golden Mountain, and much more. This can easily take up around 4 hours of your day and should not be missed. Total for a tuk tuk driver the whole day and admission fees for 2 (1000b $30usd). From here take a night bus+ferry heading to Koh Tao, you will arrive around 10am and a ticket will be around 700b ($22) per person. Day 3-6 Spend these days checking out the island, relaxing on the beach, enjoying a sunset dinner, and many other things. Koh Tao is commonly referred to as "The Honeymoon Island". It is also less strutted with tourists as opposed to Koh Phangan and Koh Phi Phi. Once finished take a ferry to neighbouring Koh Samui (300b pp). Day 6-9 Koh Samui is another island but you will find it much more developed than Koh Tao. The island is littered with restaurants from a cheap local thai vendor, to high end expensive cuisine form all over the world. Be sure to check out the Green Mango in Chaweng for nightlife congaing a great mix of locals and tourists. Being an island there are man beaches but it also contains a supermarket, movie, theatre, waterfalls, elephant trekking, and much more. Day 9-14 Take a night bus to Phuket (800b) and spend these days either on many beaches, checking out Phuket's Big Buddha, shopping in Pattaya and experiencing the world renown nightlife of Bangla Road. Also, 2 days in Koh Phi Phi are definitely not to be missed on your trip, there are many day trips while in Koh Phi Phi that take you to some incredible places around the island and including hand feeding monkeys, cliff jumping, pristine beaches, and so much more. Day trip are priced very well and you can find high quality tours on the island for around 500b ($15pp). From here you can fly out of Phuket and head home! Although you will be clinging on to this great country the entire trip to the airport. Much of this itinerary is based on 2 budget backpackers, so many night buses can be replaced for flights and tuk tuks swapped for taxis.

Hi there. For the sun-sand-and-sea I would recommend the islands East of Bangkok. Koh Samet is just a couple of hours by van+boat from the capital city, so you will not waste time. Koh Chang is about 5 hours by van+boat and it gives you the opportunity to sun bathe, snorkel, dive, ride an elephant or do some light trekking to the waterfalls. 4-5 days. For the Bangkok area, I recommend the nearby tiny province of Samut Sonkgram. Things to see: the lovely Amphawa floating market, the Wat Ban Kung Tree Temple and the amazing Mae Khlong Railway Market. All three can be visited in half a day. Just keep in mind that Amphawa is open Friday to Sunday only. From Amphawa you can take a boat up the Mae Khlong river to the Kanchanaburi province. Visit Sangkhlaburi for the Mon Burmese villages, see the Bridge over River Kway and the Three Pagodas Pass (hotspot in the WWII) then proceed to the Erawan Waterfall. That will take you 3 more days. If time allows, you can also invest 3 days in visiting the old capitals of Ayuthaya (1 hour north of Bangkok) and Sukhothai (5-6 hours north of Bangkok). Amazing sights. Last but not least, in case you want to end the trip "en fanfare", allow a couple of days at the Hua Hin beach resort (3 hours South of Bangkok) for a relaxing spa treatment or a kite surfing session. I hope that helps. Cheers! Brad

Place to go For the trip to Thailand, I can advise you for a bit. In my opinion, the best beach I've been to is Similan Island. You can go for diving, relaxing, and etc. Bangkok, you should visit Wat Phra Kaew, Siam Paragon, ChaoPhraya River, Jatujak Market, etc. Amphawa Floating Market in Samut Songkram is another interesting place to go with variety of food and souvenirs and you can also get in touch with the water-front culture, remember to see the fireflies at night! Natural Trip to the mountain, there are many mout. in Thailand, especially in the North and West of Thailand. If you happen to be on Koh Samui, I highly recommend taking  Island Organics Cooking Class (http://islandorganicssamui.com/). I took a vegetarian course on Monday, and I have to say, this so far has been one of my favorite activities in Thailand. You end up picking up all your ingredients from the owners' organic farm which can make you believe you've just entered paradise. I posted a detailed review with photos and videos here: http://www.reinvent.today/best-thai-cooking-class-samui/
