What are good microphones for vlogging?

Why does the iSight webcam have two microphones next to the actual camera?

  • "The iSight incorporates internal microphones with dual-element noise suppression. The actual camera only takes up one-quarter of the unit; the remaining space is primarily occupied by its two microphones and mounting socket" What does this mean? Why does the camera require microphones? Does it use ultrasound (like the Polaroid cameras) for active auto-focusing? If not, then how does the autofocus in iSight work? Does it use active auto-focussing?

  • Answer:

Apparently I have read a few places online mentioning the two microphones are for providing clear crisp audio.

"Dual element noise suppression" means it uses two microphones, compares the audio stream from both, then suppresses background noise. Why does the camera require microphones? No one expects video feeds to be silent, especially when a webcam is most commonly used for telecommunications like Skype. I don't know how auto-focus is achieved with this specific video camera, but typically this is done my contract detection, a video-only affect. Modern cameras don't use ultrasound/sonar anymore because it is not very accurate.
