How can I teach myself horticulture?

• I'm not very good at learning things in school, so I'd like to try seeing if I can teach myself better. I'm interested in working with plant based closed life support systems and might plan on getting a job in that field. It seems like horticulture would be a good subject to focus on for that field. I have two questions. First: are there any good resources (books, videos, experiments, etc.) that I can use to teach myself? And second: if I do try going into a field involving horticulture (in the context of closed life support systems) how can I prove that I am well educated without a degree as evidence?

  Horticulture is a big topic, so it is hard to recommend what books to read.  Start growing Get access to land for growing. Buy your own, or have a good proposal for using someone else's land. There could be people with land they don't plan to develop who would let you use it. Determine your goals, and track your project with careful observation. Increase the value of the land with your work. Learn about all the plants around you. Learn about the natives. When do they flower and make seeds? How do they related to fungi? Share what you know.
