What is it to study Computer Science in a tier 2 college in India? Most of the questions and answers are extremes either about the IITs or Tier 3 colleges. What about those colleges in between?
-
Most of the answers to these types of questions describe tier 3 colleges. Their horrible teaching methods etc etc. But what about those tier 2 colleges, Where the average students go.I believe these students have the potential and the zeal to do something new. Does the college tag hamper their career?

Answer:
Most importantly very less importance is given to practical applications of the subjects we learn. Most of the professors are those who couldn't find a job due to lack of skills and in cs dept you would find that the ratio of lady professors is high. Most of them would either be discussing about their family matters or tv shows or gossiping about others .No discussions related to the subject is http://done.In general most of the professors lack interest in the subject, they are just here for the sake of stomach, they don't get a feeling that they are cheating with students life. But you may find few exceptional professors and get motivated by them.research work is zero. Most of the professors would apply for a phd after joining the college.Ask a doubt and the reply you would get is ur question is wrong or I will get back to it tomorrow. The professors don't have any idea about programming competitions such as ACM ICPC etc.And coming to the syllabus, the syllabus committee thinks it's the most advanced syllabus in the world .the exams just require cramming, you would be questions such as what is a an algorithm? Etc .And also you would find few students interested in the subject, most of them would be like get good grades and get placed by final semester.college tag hampers a students progress to a little extent, but if you are really good at your subject, then no college tag is needed

Other answers
Regardless of the tier level, what is really being scrutinized are the teaching methodologies: Students are given a vague overview of Computer Science concepts without their real world applications. Curriculum in general remains outdated. It is more theoretical than practical. In short, these universities offer few or no opportunities to challenge your intellect. There are definitely a few more points that I'm missing out :) Will add them when they pop up in my head.
