IT Management: What is that *ONE* IT certification to land an entry level IT job in almost any area of the IT industry?
-
For example, if someone wanted an entry level IT Help Desk position I would assume they would need to get CompTIA A+ certification. What other certs do you know of that can easily land an entry level job in almost any area of IT?
-
Answer:
Technically not a certification, but a degree in Computer Science is widely recognized as broadly useful and applicable to many entry level positions where you work with computers.

I am going to paste my comment from another very similar question. Here it is: "It depends on what you like. I would recommend doing what I did during the tech crash - get an entry level job, then work your way up through the company. While I did get my Microsoft Cert and Cisco CCNA, they didn't really help AT ALL for getting a job, but they DID help me get a baseline and broad understanding of technology. This helped to accomplish more things at work than a normal entry level worker. It also helped boost confidence. Getting a cert is your call. If you understand technology really well, I'd say don't bother getting a cert until you get a job it would actually help with - then make THEM pay for it. Back to what I did during the tech crash: I got a job as a teller at a medium sized savings bank while in my senior year of college. I worked there for a few months, did a great job, then went to HR and told them I was studying computer engineering and wanted to work in the technology department. I kept in touch with HR for the next few months and a job finally opened when the Network Admin quit. They promoted me from teller to interim tech support to fill in for the network admin. TIP: When they interviewed me, the one thing they liked most was my enthusiasm. So when you interview - just show your excitement about the opportunity, be likeable and tell them you're going to take advantage of such a great opportunity. Needless to say - I got hired as interim tech support, did a kick ass job, and was promoted to network administrator within the first year. Cheers and good luck!"
