Is it possible to unblock someone on Facebook?

Why doesn't Facebook allow you to block someone for 48 hours after you unblock them?

  • When you unblock someone on Facebook, you cannot block them again for 48 hours. This makes no sense to me – why would they not allow you to do this for 48 hours?

  • Answer:

One potential reason is that, last I checked, if person A blocks person B, person B cannot block person A back since B cannot even see A's profile to do so. Because of this, it's possible for A to actually stalk B by unblocking B every time they want to see B's profile. If B then has a two-day window to block A back, it discourages this behavior. It reduces the likelihood of harassment from behind a blocking account as well.

I think Facebook also wants to stop people from using block and unfriend interchangeably.  They aren't the same.  If you don't want to be friends with someone on Facebook,  unfriend them but don't block them.  That gives the impression that you don't want to be friends with them in person either.

I think it is because so the blocking account does not stalk the blocked person.  Because otherwise the situation will escalate with the blocking account where they think they are in full control.  It is usually just best to unfriend a person if you don't want them to see your timeline.
