How does one get started/noticed as a music journalist?

  If you want to be a music journalist, all you need to do is start a blog, and then write, write, write. Every day. Maybe several times a day. Anybody who can set up a Tumblr can be a "music journalist." If you want to get paid for it, that's improbable, but I guess not impossible; you just need to write better and faster than every other would-be music journalist, and have a bigger and more devoted online following. Be a music major, an English major, an art history major, a chemistry major, doesn't matter. Just be writing, every waking moment that you get. Have strong and definite opinions. Knowing a thing or two about music helps, naturally, but is less important than the ability to write things other people want to read. The only way to learn how to do that is to do it, do it, do it, do it.
