What printer should I get?

I am 75. I have an old lap top computer running Windows XP and a printer. If I get an android tablet like a Google tablet and want to print with my USB printer what is the cheapest manner to get the printer online with Google cloud print?

  • I would just use the lap top as the host for cloud print, but since it runs XP which is no longer supported by Microsoft, I worry that the lack of updates would cause a problem. I could get linux for it, but I fear I'll not be able to figure out such a strange operating system. This is complicated by the fact that my son is leaving the country and he usually helps with my computer problems.

  • Answer:

You could do exactly as you mentioned and use your XP laptop as the 'host' machine.  I really don't see any future issues with a lack of updates - but if that does happen, http://www.linuxmint.com/ would be a good, easy to install fallback plan.

Zorin Linux looks and runs very much like Windows, except for the viruses and crashes. I prefer Mint, which has an XP-like menu. I'm an old fart who forgets the names of programs, so I like the menu. Linux usually has the drivers built in, or else it will get it over the internet and install it with no trouble. It will run hardware that Microsoft abandoned.
