What does it take to be a Biomedical engineer?

What does it take for a Google software engineer to get headcount for their project idea?

  • I mean full-time headcount to work on the project (even if it is a single headcount for themselves). Can you do this when you are a Software Engineer 2 or 3, or do you need to be a Senior or Staff Software Engineer?

  • Answer:

Projects can be started by anyone with a good idea, particularly if you can demonstrate that it's feasible and cool.  Some large projects have even been started by Interns or SE3s. The first step, varies.  If its a completely new idea: 1) Prototype the project 2) Approach a Director about working on the project. or vica versa if you think you can justify the project without a prototype. Permanent headcount is approved at the VP level, so in short order, you'll also have to justify the project to a VP.  The step after that is "Product Council", which sets the product direction and roadmap for Google as a whole.
