What is the career prospect in Travel and Tourism Management for Indians in India/Foreign countries?

  • My girlfriend is pursuing bachelor's degree in Travel and Tourism Management. I am a Computer Science graduate from India and probably choose research-based career after my higher studies. I want to know what is her career prospect which can be allied with my aims of my life. Suppose, I settle for research-based jobs outside India in foreign countries like US, Germany, Netherlands for 8-10 years. Or I settle for a teaching job in India after my 30-35. What's her options? Please tell with respect to higher studies also.

    Anyone who tries to predict the career prospects of almost any degree obtained today in 8-10 years is being unrealistic. That stands for either travel and tourism or computer science. Travel and tourism is a fine career option. Presuming someone continues to develop her professional skills and knowledge relevant to that career she should be able to adapt to changes in the marketplace. Perhaps in 3-5 years she will return to school to pick up an MBA and become a manager, VP or CEO of a large travel and tourism company and at that point you will need to follow her. Or perhaps she will find herself on a completely different career path. A big piece of the equation has to do with what her career goals and interests are. According to successful career theorist John Krumboltz from Stanford University in the US and his Planned Happenstance career model and noted career theorist Jim Bright with his Chaos career theory model being open to options and possibilities is a much better way to build a successful long term career over planning it out 10 years ahead. A plan is okay but it is those who can adapt who tend to be more satisfied and successful. Perhaps you should explore if your life, values and then your career goals are aligned.
