How to create a dropdown user control?

Dependent dropdown list

  • I am trying to fix my issue already for quite a long time but cannot solve it. I arrived on this site via your answer to Ethan(send on 5/5/2010). My issue in summary: I have a database with a list of cities, age categories and persons on an excelsheet "Data". I want to create dependent dropdown lists(I assume combo box(form control))on sheet "Overview". But I cannot create the right vba-code to come up with my dropdown lists, partly because of the multiple inputs in first and second column(see below). The format of the database is: Column A; Column B; Column C Amsterdam; 20 - 30; James Amsterdam; 20 - 30; Jake Amsterdam; 30 - 40; Andrew Rotterdam; Younger than 20; Sandrine Rotterdam; 40 - 50; Jan Vlissingen; 40 - 50; Martha Currently column A contains about 60 values, column b limeted variation, column C around 1000 values. And everytime the new data is imported the dropdown lists should adjust to the new data. Hopefully my question is clear and you can help me solving this(so that I can continue my analysis).

  • Answer:

Jan, If you want to send me a sample workbook with the dropdown boxes already on sheet Overview and sample data on sheet data. Also, you will need to tell me more about how the data is imported and when you want the macro to run to update the dropdown boxes. Also tell me what version ofyou are using I assume if you are using dropdowns from the forms toolbar you are looking for a VBA/macro solution. send to
