Why do Indians receive calls from unknown numbers from Pakistan, China, North Korea and other countries, which we are warned against attending?
-
I have also received messages from my cellphone operator not to pick up such calls. What is the purpose behind such calls? It is also said they can be from terrorist groups. How can they impact us, if any person attends such a call?
-
Answer:
Such calls are paid calls. It is a scam. When you receive such a call and you 'answer it', your balance will be deducted and will be transferred to the caller's account. Similar to Indian Idol's or KBC's paid SMSs whereby you are charged a higher amount than your usual SMS charges. Many such schemes are hacked by Nigerians. And since such callers are in other countries and the victims loose very less (>RS 100), the chances of Police catching the culprits are very slim.
