What Are Good Carbs?

What is a good way to eat 40% 40% 20% (Protein/ Carbs/ Fat) and what happens with all of the protein?

  • Lets say I need 2600cal / day. That means I have to eat 260 g Protein / 260g Carbs and 130g Fat. But I know from a different theory that my body only needs 60 - 75g of Protein (0.8  - 1.0 grams per kilogram of lean bodyweight - source: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/maki1.htm ) What happens with the rest of the protein? Or is it a better idea for me to eat 75g protein, 445g Carbs and 130g Fat?!

  • Answer:

I'm not a nutritionist. Having said this and after reviewing your comment to the question, I'm of the opinion you would be taking in too much protein unless you're 7' tall and +/- 275 pounds. I'm not joking, my son's best friend is a collegiate Div I basketball player this size (He's actually '7 2") and his protein needs are through the roof. My son was a Div I fullback and his needs were not even close to those your asking about. Back on point, if you want to bulk up you should find a balanced nutritional program (see the zone diet) using lean proteins, including your choice of protein powders as a supplement, balanced with micro nutrients to round out your diet. The gains your are looking for are very achievable and will be the result of diet, AND lifting heavy weights. Spend some time reading through a nutritional program, as in books not articles, and find one that fits your lifestyle and health goals. To answer your question as to what happens with the extra protein, much of it is processed through the digestive system and the excess would be stored as fat.
