How does Yelp get away with its search result pages getting indexed in Google search?

Yelp's robots.txt file (http://yelp.com/robots.txt) does not exclude its search results URL. And you can see Yelp's generic search result pages showing up in Google search results:

  Those pages are valuable, useful, unique, and highly relevant to the searcher's intent. At various points, Yelp has had trouble with getting those URLs indexed, but they made changes and upgrades to create pages that are closer to "landing pages" or "category pages" than search results. I'd argue that pages like http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Hairdresser&find_loc=Santa+Monica%2C+CA are very close to the best result Google can provide for the query "hairdresser Santa Monica."
