Deleting numbers from the spread sheet
-
QUESTION: Hi I am not knowledgable aboutbut I'm beginning to see its value. I have a list of 1000 numbers and want to keep 50 of them.Is there a way to check the 50 I want to keep rather than the 950 I want to delete.if so how can I do that. Thanks Jerry ANSWER: Jerry schlachet, It would help if I knew how your data was laid out, but I would say the easiest would be to select the 50 you want to keep and copy them to another sheet. click the first cell you want to keep, then hold down the control key and select the remainder. Then do edit=>copy go to a new sheet and do Edit=>Paste. that works best if all the numbers are in a single column or they form a rectangular area. If they don't, you might want to work with subsets that do and perform the copy in several operations. If I knew more about your situation (data layout, version of excel), I might be able to give you a better solution, particularly if you have a rule that would allow a formula to determine which numbers you want to keep. ---------- FOLLOW-UP ---------- QUESTION: Thanks for your help. Where do I find "Edit=>Copy" Buy right clicking I can get"copy" or "edit text import" Thanks Jerry

Answer:
Jerry, in Excel 2003 and earlier, go to the edit menu and select copy (so Edit=>copy) in Excel 2007, they have changed the menu structure. The copy button is located in the Home Tab on the ribbon in the first command Button. (so there is no Edit=>copy menu sequence in Excel 2007). the right click and copy should be the same. I wasn't trying to talk about anything special - just copying the selected cells. Sorry if that was confusing.
