Will Google's recent algorithm changes that penalize sites with duplicate content increase the valuation of independent blogs?

Answer:
Most likely yes. While my evidence isn't conclusive, I've seen a 15-20% increase in search traffic on a few content sites, and the timing seems to correlate with the "content farm" algorithm update. Now, whether or not the content farmers will adjust remains to be seen. I'm not sure that their model is effective if they have to pay twice as much to get content that's twice as better, but we'll see. It's also worth noting that many independent blogs could increase their value by embracing email marketing, link building, social media marketing, etc. It's great that Google's algorithm change has rewarded quality, independent blogs with more traffic, but bloggers shouldn't rest on their laurels.

Yes...with a few qualifications. Blog owners need to embrace marketing of their product since social signals seem to have gained importance Architecture and SEO needs need to be addressed. Lots of blogs are very sloppy in how they are optimized and have lots of duplicate title issues in their pagination Original content, content, content!

IMHO, article writing will no longer be the fix it once was. Web sites will need to be updated and have more regular, relevant updates if they want to stay competitive. Blogs attached to a local small business site will be more useful then ever. In depth, local information, regularly updated, served lightning fast, will be the bar. From research, it seems page speed is a much more important to your rank then ever before.
