Which Indian ecommerce marketplaces use cart solutions such as magento/etc?
-
I am interested in knowing of marketplaces that do not have an in-house (built from scratch) shopping cart solution. Rather companies that use Magento, osCommerce, CS-Cart (used by http://ShopClues.com), etc. Open Source or not doesn't matter. Can you name the company and the solution they use?

Answer:
Thank you for A2A : Magento is the most popular cart solution used by a lot of ecommerce companies. While majority of the big names have their own proprietary backend, majority of the mid-sized ones use Magento. Inkfruit used Magento till it got acquired by Zovi recently (Zovi has its in-house shopping cart solution).

Magento is used fairly throughout India. Some stores that I know of that use Magento are Zivame, Stuffcool. However I am sure they customize magento extensively. Another popular solution used is http://www.octashop.com/index.html. Hope that helps.

As far as I know there are more than 35 marketplaces in India, starting from Egully and Mirraw and ending with Zaarga and Aniika. Anyway, the most popular is Ebay, the same as worldwide. Furthermore, there are more than 10 solutions that are possible to get connected with these marketplaces, but only 2 of them are worth of discussion. I have not tried Magento, as it seemed to me too complicated, I am a business owner not programmer, and I do not like when my business is controlled by developers. Anyway, I have tried two solutions that were good for Indian marketplaces but one brought results and another not. I have initiated my e-commerce business in India with Bigcommerce, and that seemed not bad, as it showed a good analysis of customers and was functioning well, and it had a good connection with the e-bay market place. Later, I wanted to add some other popular Indian marketplaces, but that function was offered for an additional fee, that seemed to me like a kind of cheating, so I gave up with it. I moved to the other platform -ShoppingCartElite and started with a trial version of it. And in two weeks, I moved to the lowest subscription, and it gave me what I wanted- I could connect to the most popular marketplaces without any extra charge. So, I stop searching other alternatives, and currently, I have three online stores with theirs market places functioning with this solution. I think you definitely need to pay attention on it and try it. Have a good luck! Disclosure: I am an owner of online stores, and I used these companies and have written this post.

Magento is a starting code that allows you to develop around it in a similar way. However, this process is a long one and there are literally hundreds of things that need nailing down to really compete and expand.I know one cart that is offering their custom development after working with hundreds of clients for almost a decade now, these have a flexible framework to build and automate your processes - SHOPPING.CART.ELITE is extremely knowledgeable and has the unified integrated software to really make a big difference.

Pepperfry and LensKart are some of the popular Indian ecommerce stores that are based on Magento. These stores have not been built from scratch; in fact, most of the entrepreneurs prefer using ecommerce platforms rather than designing websites from the beginning. This saves a lot of time, and they can also get personalized and professionalized services from these ecommerce platforms. Some of the services offered by ecommerce platforms are hosting, marketing, SEO, website designing, graphic designing, content management, ERP, and much more. You should try this Ecommerce Cart Tool (http://easyshoppingcartreviews.tumblr.com/) Disclaimer: I was asked to review the company in my answer.

Delfoo (http://delfoo.com) is using Opencart.Their team might have worked hard on working out as opencart is not designed for marketplace but you can refer it as a good example of utilizing open-source solutions for complex business needs.
