How do you convert keys from major to minor?

Keys locked in trunk: ' 06 sebring convert.

  • I have a 2006 Sebring conv. The keys were accidentally locked in the trunk. The key must be on for the interior button to activate and there is a fire wall (metal) behind the back seat and I am unable to get into the trunk. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Charlie Marie, I checked the shop manual and believe I can tell you how to release the trunk latch via the electronically-operated solenoid that you can't get to work now. The body computer is the device that activates that solenoid when you request the trunk release. It is located on back side of the fuse box which is behind the left end cap of the dash. This means that you will be able to access the body computer plugs by laying on the floor and looking up under the dash to see the rear side of that fuse box. On the lower edge (staring you in the face as it were) of that combo fuse box/body control module you will want to spot a white plug that has 26-pins. If you pull that plug and then locate pin 1 (the numbers are etched on the plug)which you can verify will have black/white stripe wire going to it. If you will simply use a jumper to apply 12 volts from one of the nearby fuses in the fuse box that shows 12v (some of the fuses will always have 12v on one of their prongs so just keep trying till you hear the trunk release) directly to pin 1 of the white plug as you hold it in your hand, that should release the trunk lid. REVISION To get a full view from under the dash, remove the lower edge trim panel of the dash and also a panel called the 'silencer'. I can copy the page that shows how to do that and attach it to an email. But you need to tell me your email address which I don't normally see. So send me a follow-up question where in the question section you specifically list that email address and the when you send it be sure to check the box that makes it "PRIVATE" so that it will be sent with the address not automatically erased from the the text of your question. The only other approach would be to go to a dealer and have them look up the VIN and from that the serial code of the key that works in the trunk and then they can cut you a replacement key. Either way I think you can get into the trunk. Good luck on this! If you would be so kind as to rate/nominate me I would appreciate it very much (see below). Roland
