Is there an Android application that can force an application to use cellular data even when WiFi is enabled?
-
I need to use cellular data connection to access my corporate e-mails; so when I turn on WiFi I can't access e-mails, but I want to keep the WiFi on at all times (for faster downloads and better location tracking). I'm looking for an application that can limit the e-mail app's network access to cellular data even if the WiFi is on.

Answer:
I don't know of an app for selective routing (you are asking about something normally done by VPN software), but I do know how to make your email work properly over WiFi Your corporate email is not setup correctly. What you are likely reporting is that you can receive your email but you can't send email. The reason is because your outbound corporate email is still setup to send on port 25, which is always blocked at WiFi locations. One option is to use Gmail to download your corporate email into a Gmail account and send through Gmail. Then you would simply configure your Android device with matching Gmail settings. I have this configured for 7 different accounts. You would never know I do this. It works great and provides you with a complete backup in case of a disaster. Another option is to setup SMTP to send through Gmail. http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=22370 Another option is to setup SMTP to send through your corporate server on an alternate port. 587 is common. 465 is also common for SSL encrypted connections. Another option is to setup VPN to your corporate network. Another option... This list will get very long once I start listing all the even more esoteric ways.
