What would be a good email address for me?

What is a good way to verify that user's email address is a corporate email address?

  • I am launching a service that depends on user using his corporate email address to signup and am looking for the best way to verify that. There are many services like Yammer, Jive etc that verify this when users sign up.

  • Answer:

If I remember correctly here's how it works with Yammer.  You create an account and enter your email address.  Yammer grabs the domain portion of that email address and looks to see if a community already exists for that domain.  If it does, then you are joined to it.  If it does not, then Yammer creates a new community and associates that domain with it.  Other folks from the same domain can only join by entering an email address from that domain.  So, it's a simple matter of getting the name of domain and then testing all future accounts to ensure that they belong to the same domain.  That's typically done with a confirmation email.

I’m working with http://AnyMailFinder.com It bounces the email off the server to check if it exists. If it comes back as verified, that means it really is there.

These guys down at http://www.emailverifierapp.com have a feature which lets you exclude such emails and also allows you to run email verification on your mailing list so you can see if they are valid or invalid. I reckon it would come in handy. Have a crack at it.
