How To Verify CVV Online?

Would you provide your card details along with CVV code to vendor?

  • It is okay to enter the card details and CVV code to make a transaction via Payment gateway or the billing system. But would you provide the CVV code to the vendor(to a representative of the company) via phone? Once, I was about to purchase domains in Godaddy and the representative on phone asked the details including the CVV code which  should only entered on a secured system. Isn't it a security threat? Why did the company asked me to give the credentials in person and not a  VOIP + Credit Card Terminal when the transaction is via phone? (Addiotional details, on that day, I have access to the online interface and the representative know that. She should have ask me to proceed on my end)

    Yes, if I believe the vendor to be reputable.   You are not liable for fraud if it is promptly reported.  I am a lot more careful and unlikely to use  my atm/debit card for card not present transactions as the impact of fraud hits my bank balance and not my credit line.

The CVV simply states that you are in possession of your card and if required for processing means the vendor is using an internet/phone terminal. The CVV will also indicate that these transaction bares no signature on the statement. Storage of cvv's are ILLEGAL and must be destroyed after the transaction is made either electronically non storage or destroy the form (paper) where it was collected. more of the rules are called PCI. if you need to go deeper go to : http://mcccode.com/group/payment-industry-news
