How hard is it to get a job in media?

How have you used social media to get a job or job interview?

  • Answer:

I am the Marketing Specialist at http://www.workbridgeassociates.com/locations/los-angeles and I monitor and post on multiple social media forums (Reddit, FB, Twitter, Linked in, Quora). Both myself and our recruiters often post jobs and check to see if people active on the sites are currently seeking jobs. I highly recommend using these sites to help in your search-I have only witnessed positive results and successes from doing so!

When we hire employees, we do an extensive search of their social media profiles across various platforms. That being said, it would be a wise idea to update and clean up your profiles before applying to any job.  You can use social media to get your "foot in the door" by liking, commenting, and sharing their content.  Connecting on Twitter or LinkedIn with employees is a great way to show your interest in the company.  Once in an interview, refer to articles, quotes, company updates, etc. that you've seen on their profiles.  This is a great way to show that you are investing in the company before even having a job.

Yes, I used linkedin and twitter to get coffees (aka interviews/meetings) with the top dogs several times.
