How do I configure Wordpress to use permalinks when there is no htaccess file (Nginx server)?

WordPress Codex has some pointers on that: http://codex.wordpress.org/Nginx You should also use http://wordpress.org/plugins/nginx-helper/ or something similar to get rid of the stubborn 'index.php' in the permalinks. It shows up, because usual WordPress checks for existance of rewrite engine fail on nginx.
