Is computer engineering/ computer science a good field to go into?

How would one go about learning computer science, if their engineering degree is in another field?

  • Answer:

Learn about data structures, analysis of algorithms, etc... CS is a very vast field. Ain't no way you are going to mug it all up...Just research on stuff your work or your field would relate to...For e.g. in my case, I am right now developing a product which needs a solution to a specific cs problem called document classification. I didn't even know what that meant until I posted about my program's goals (seeking a solution to it of course) in a cs google group. Then slowly researched it. Wikipedia, youtube, & others resources did help understand concepts like edit distance, tokenization, ngrams, etc. Apart from this you need a fundamental understanding of math subjects like set theory, algebra, permutations & combinations, probability, etc. Basically the ocean is out there...You just have to figure in what direction to sail...
