How can I store and view all my photos and videos in the cloud, from multiple devices, without requiring a local copy?
-
I have 25 GB of photos & videos on my laptop, and 12 GB of photos & videos on my phone (I'm a Mac/iPhone user). I'm running out of space on both devices, and I feel it's a bit old school to still in 2013 be saving media locally. I'd like to move everything to the cloud! But how to do it? I'd like both tips on services and best practices. UPDATE: Please do not redirect the question to (I link to this question below), since my question includes more details and quite a few specific requirements. I need to: Store media in full resolution. Don't require a copy of the media on my computer. Be able to find media by date, location, tags. Be able to access media on computer, tablet, and phone. Easy media upload from computer and phone. Have a reliable service - for life. The existing services I know of all have limitations: Apple : still relies on final storage on your computer. Only last 1000 images accessible on phone. : relies on having a local copy of the files. Limited searching/organization of media. : ... is anyone still using Flickr? http://memorycloudapp.com: closing down. : anyone tried? See also:

From: I personally use SmugMug, which offers display of full-res jpgs and with a nominal fee, online backup of RAW (and any other format) on the Amazon cloud. Beyond backup, it offers lots of other features for photographers, up to and including online sales. There was a recent article listing many different cloud solutions for storing photos online: http://www.aphotoeditor.com/2011/02/04/online-storage-for-photographers/ It stores video and photos with no need to maintain a copy on your harddrive. Perfectly accessible by PC or mobile. Tagging and searches. Easy to upload. And as reliable as anyone else can promise for your lifetime. The answers to this question are already in Quora. Your specific needs really aren't any different than anyone else that wants to use cloud storage for photos and video. (23 answers!)

Picasa is great for that. Picasa can identify people in pictures, easily share albums with non techies (eg your grandmother) and the software is great for both Mac and PC. 80gb of storage will cost you only $20 a year and seems sufficient for your needs. You can also use Dropbox but with less fancy stuff and for more money. With both you don't have to keep a local copy.
