I would like to answer this question. I am really not sure of the scenario discussed in the question i.e. "A married student" seeking admission through lateral entry. Because most of the people crack the HSC + Engineering entrances on or before 18 years of age. And most of the people who seek admission to lateral entry are not more than 20 year old. Now for guys, legal age of marriage is 21 years and for girls it is 18 years. However due to fast pace of development people are getting married really later in their lives so it's highly unlikely that a student seeking lateral entry in IIIT-H would be married. Now let's get to the answer the question, I knew many PhD students personally (made friends with many due to talkative nature). All of them lived in hostels for students. In my information none of them were married. So I am really not sure if IIIT-H provides accommodation for married students. Now the second part of the question, If you have read all the details about IIIT-H on admission portal, you'll come to know that IIIT-H is residential institute for Lateral entry and all the full time programs like BTech, MTech, MS and Dual Degree. This means that hostel residence is mandated for everyone who makes to any one of the full time program in IIIT-H. This is necessary to maintain the high academic quality as most of the top tier institutions in this country like IITs and BITS follow the same rule. You get in, you need to register for hostel and mess. However, there are many local students who stay within 5 kilometers of the college and as per the rule they register for the hostel and mess. However due to proximity to home many of them opt to spend only some time in hostel and rest of the time at home. But mind it, they are very few in numbers. On an average out of 1500 people in campus, you'll find less than 10 people who're doing this. And actually I would not recommend that too. There are many local students who have taken admission and who have their homes near to institute. Most of them go home once or twice at max a month when there are continuous holidays for 2 or more days. Living in the hostels of IIIT-H is very comfortable. If you are married and looking for admission in lateral entry then I would suggest you that you stay at hostels and visit your home every weekend/ holiday. There are many residential areas near IIIT-H. If you're a bit low on budget then Indira Nagar area is the best option to live. You'll find a lot of budget accommodation here. If, as you've mentioned, money is not a problem then you can really find good accommodation in the posh apartments in this area for around 12 to 18 K per month. Do not say more than 5 kilometers farther from IIIT-H as commute would cause you significant stress and strain and might impact your motivation levels (That's what happens in metros).
