What are good ways to become a really good developer (php)? I was so confused...

Read the Documentation, that's always a great and overlooked step. Seriously, just sit down and read through anything that looks interesting. Learn some frameworks; there's a ton out there. The main one I run into most is CakePHP and CodeIgnitor. Learn Programming Patterns. Usually a certain programing pattern can be applied to your programs to make them simpler.

TLDR: Keep coding, keep developing and keep studying. A school for developers people ignore a lot  out there is Open Source. There are alternatives, but if your target is web development, then your best school is Open Source. There are sites like http://github.com/ that have tons and tons of projects for you to contribute. Working with others, learning to discuss, understand and respect different opinions and solutions are what differentiates a great developer from a good one. How do you start? Try! Find some piece of code you find useful and I bet with you there will be many opportunities to make it better. I completely dislike previous answers that claim that learning XXX would make you a better developer. A good developer knows it language and its ecosystem and use the tools people provide through them, not the inverse! Last, but not least, I would make sure to have read http://phptherightway.com/ that resumes the current PHP ecosystem around there ;)

Learn Symfony 2 framework. Its code base is very clean and concise. You will know how to write clean code and a lot of excellent libraries. Learn to write in Symfony way :). Happy coding!!!

Practice and practice is the first thing you should do Then try to read new techniques related to Web Developer such as HTML , JS and PHP
