What's the best app for associative learning?

• In a wider sense, I'm looking for some sort of app that allows me to create a knowledge database. It should be possible to add individual pieces of knowledge to the database but most importantly associate/link/reference each piece to any other piece of knowledge similar to the human brain. Ideally the app has a training mode in which the user is presented with some piece of knowledge and has to respond with certain/all/...(depending on context) associated pieces of knowledge. In the beginning, I had a vocabulary trainer in mind but I think the concept is actually more universal. Thinking of a vocabulary trainer you could use such an app like this: - The user enters/imports his/her own word lists - Words typically have synonyms/antonyms or have related verbs/nouns/adjectives/etc... so it should be easy to enter or import them and reference them as well - The app tests the user similar to one of the many flash card apps on the web but does not treat each flashcard as an isolated piece of knowledge but more like a piece of an associative network of knowledge. Especially when using such an app in the training mode - this approach would build on the fact that our brains learn things better when they are looked at in context of other associated information than as isolated pieces of knowledge.   Anki is a flash card app that has a lot of features that support associative learning. Also, it supports plugins, so you might be able to write something that does what you want.
