How can I track third party conversion?

What tool(s) can you use to track funnel conversion across multiple domains?

  • What tool(s) can you use to track funnel conversion across multiple domains? I ask because I make use of several different tools online as part of my sales funnel and I am wondering which tool I can use that will work in such a situation. For example my landing page for my webinar is on my website domain and when folks click on the clickthrough button, they are taken to the page on another domain where they have to enter in their name and email. After successfully registering for the webinar they are brought back to a thank you page on my domain. Then on the day of the webinar they are shown a link during the webinar and if they click on it they are taken to a sales page on my domain and if they decide to buy, they are taken to an order form that is on a third party domain and if successful they are brought to a thank you page on a third party domain. You see multiple domains for the same funnel. Please advice. P.S do not advise me to put everything one domain because that is not possible at this time and it's neither the question I am asking. Thanks

  • Answer:

Assuming your funnel looks like this: Webinar Landing Page (your domain) >> Signup Form page (other domain) >> Thank You page (your domain). Method 1 Using conventional CRO tools which work by inserting a snippet of JS code on your page, you can optimize your landing page and assign the Thank You page to be the goal page i.e. whenever someone who's part of the test lands on the Thank You page, it's counted as a goal conversion. For this method, you don't require cross domain tracking but will not be able to optimize the Signup Form page. Method 2 If you can insert the JS snippet in the webinar signup page (other domain), you will be able to optimize that page too. In Visual Website Optimizer (I work for them), you just have to enable "Cross Domain Tracking" when setting up your test. Both these methods will be valid for the second case too.

Visual Website Optimizer is another tool that tracks conversions cross-domain. I think you'd have to have the start and end pages on your domain though.

I would just implement "cross domain tracking" within the settings of Google analytics.

Integrate your cross domains simply with http://Segment.io and then use whichever analytics tools suit you best: Mixpanel, Woopra, etc. Don't make the mistake to place your bets on a single analytics tool. You might need a set of tools and http://segment.io ensbles the perfect foundation.
