What would be a great video producing software?

Which video production software is best for a newbie, who wants to create a Chroma-Key video?

  • I want to make some short video presentations for a number of potential clients, which software offers best results with the shortest learning curve for chroma-keying and producing video templates that can be reused 1)Camtasia Studio 2) Adobe After Effects 3)Final Cut Pro or any other alternatives that you seem to fit the purpose. (any tips or suggestions about this are welcomed)

    I used AfterEffects many years ago for some smaller projects and found it pretty easy to work with, although I wasn't using chroma. In any case AE is an industry-standard program and it would be a good idea to learn it if you're going to be doing any larger projects in the future.

Chroma key is a pretty basic feature. If you want cheap and easy, iMovie will do it for you. Camtasia Studio is geared specifically for screen capture and has basic editing functions. Adobe After Effects is meant for adding visuals to an existing video, and FCPX is a an NLE. They all have very different goals and the only common denominator is that they do chroma keying - but only FCPX is intended for editing (the equivalent Adobe product is Premiere, BTW). iMovie is the cheapest and most straight-forward way, however:

Although not a regular user of FCPX, it has an excellent and very automated built in Chroma-keyer which gives excellent results for little effort generally. I recommend watching this, to see what you think of it:

Personally, I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. The Ultra-Key feature makes it easy for newbies to key out blue or green screen backgrounds, provided your backdrop is evenly lit and you're not using standard-def footage or (god forbid) miniDV tapes.
