How can I start a career as a psychologist?

My undergrad is in Computer Science and I have a year of experience in IT. I've realised only now that I want to be a psychologist. Is it too late for me to start on a new career path now?

  • I know there are lots of fields (e.g. neuroscience) where I can use my computer science knowledge and also do psychology-related work, but please don't suggest those. I don't want to get into the technical side of things. I want to, perhaps, get a doctorate, and then start my own private practice. Also, what steps should I take before and while pursuing my PhD ( if i manage to get admitted to a decent program) to make up for my lack of relevant background?

  • Answer:

I can't comment on the specifics, but it's definitely not too late. You can change careers at any time in your life. I'm 46 and I've had 3 careers so far and expect to have several more. Go for it!
