How to reach civil lines metro station from new delhi railway station(main?

How long will it take to reach Old Delhi railway station from the Palam airport (domestic 1D terminal), via Airport metro?

  • My flight is scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 10:55 a.m. on Nov. 1 and I have to catch a train from Old Delhi station which leaves at 1:15 p.m. . What would you suggest would be the fastest way to reach there? Should I go via Airport Metro or should I take a cab directly to the station? Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

    I do this every time I'm visiting my hometown in UP. If you're arriving at Terminal 1D then the best and fastest way to reach the railway station (old or new) would be to take a cab straightaway. Going to the Aerocity Metro station will only waste your time if you're really short on it. Also the metro goes to New Delhi RS whereas you need to go to Old Delhi RS which again will require you to change metros, consuming your precious time. The cab instead will hardly take more than 30 mins even in peak traffic to drop you at the Old Delhi RS (for me it's always 20-25 mins for NDLS). Plus, if you take prepaid taxi, it'll be very cheap as compared to Meru or OLA cabs. All in all, a win-win situation :) PS: Taking a metro can be partially justified if you're going only to New Delhi RS. With Phase III of the Delhi Metro coming up, there'll be connectivity to Terminal 1D, then you can do all what you want in the metro!

Airport metro doesn't run from 1D terminal. You would need to go to Terminal 3 using airport shuttle. There you can catch airport metro to New Delhi Railway Station (per ticket cost is 200/-). It takes around 35 minutes. From New Delhi Railway Station you need to catch metro going towards Jahangir Puri (it costs 8/-). Metro station at Old Delhi Railway station is known as Chandani Chowk Metro station, is 2nd stop from New Delhi railway station (please confirm it while taking ticket). It takes around 10 minutes. So if we add up transit time, ticket purchasing time, waiting time, it comes around 80-90 minutes to reach Old Delhi Railway Station from Terminal 1D. P.S. : It has been long since I took above mentioned route, so please keep confirming above information while transiting or if some better alternative has come up.

Arrival Time: 10:55 AM Luggage Arrival time and you will be fully ready to leave 1D: 11:30 AM Shuttle to Airocity Metro Station: 11:45 AM Ticket and Wait for Metro: 12: Noon Reach New Delhi Metro Station: 12:15 PM Go to the Yellow Line and buy ticket and Security Check in the overcrowded metro station: 12:45 PM Reach Chandni Chowk Metro Station: 12:55 PM Rush out and search for your platform number: 1:10 PM In your compartment: 1:15 PM Better to take a cab from Terminal 1D, it will take around 60 to 80 minutes to reach Old Delhi Railway Station. And you will be able to be at the platform by 1 PM. PS: Just finish all your washroom needs in the flight itself to save the on-ground times.
