My GA content experiment results differs from the results under the convertions tab, both in terms of page views and conversions. Why is this happening?
-
I am using GA content experiment to split test our newsletter signups. The convertion goal is completed when a user fills in his/hers email adress. However, when I check the overall goal completion under the tab "Conversions -> Goals", GA claims that site B is generating 70% of the convertions. And that site B is getting 70% of the hits. In the experiment itself (under the tab "Content -> Experiments"), GA claims that page A&B are performing equally. And that site A&B are getting an equally amount of page views. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Its very frustrating.

Answer:
Hi There, In short: this sounds like you are not testing 100% of the traffic to the original variation. As a note: you mention that when you check your conversions "SITE B" is getting more conversions. Are you testing a page, or a completely different site? If it's a different site, and "SITE B" is your test variation, not only will "SITE B" get test traffic from "SITE A", but it will also get all of the normal traffic that goes to "SITE B". If "SITE B" has normal traffic to it every day, it will ALWAYS have more traffic (Sessions, Pageviews, etc) than "Site A", and possibly conversions. Let me know if I can help in any other way.
