What explains Author Nikita Singh's success? Does she really write good books (or) the 64k fans on her Facebook page are just fans of her prettiness?

If you're looking for beautiful, young Indian women writers who are also talented, I think you should check out Meena Kandasamy. To quote from this video: "I suffered reading books set in university campuses and small towns where basically nothing happens so you're on page 50 and 2 people meet for coffee and by page 150 they still haven't slept together" And if you want to read it for romance and sex there are far better options elsewhere. know

Her books are mostly centered on the themes that supposedly our young India is concerned about, (How low they think of us), like love on social networks, relationship troubles, all that emotional melodrama and shit.. I'm not criticizing anyone but this has been a rising trend, since Chetan Bhagat's dawn over India's publishing horizon.. Countless authors have come up like this.. all with love stories.. some happy, some sad.. based in school,colleges,call-centres and what not.. i bet you read 10 of them and you won't be able to tell them apart.. but they are flourishing coz these books are easy reads, and nowadays, sayin i'm an "Avid Reader" has become a social cliche.. everyone wants that in his/her bio.. so, to back it up, they read novels like this and think they've become voracious readers.. and since, the count of such people is very large, you have 64k fans for nikita singh!! I guess i've explained it enough!! P.S - You don't need to read her books to know what they're about!! Just read the titles!! :D

No doubt, its because of her Prettiness. Her writing is so infantile. Working in Penguin; all these people end up in writing all those things which youth demands containing of all melodrama, sex, love, romance and what not! That's the reason authors like Nikita keeps on earning by supplying demands and on the other hand authors like AMISH creates their masterpiece without even caring about profit. . I am not comparing these two people with different genre but writing is all about research and consciousness. And kudos to our youth of India, LOL these people keep them going!! P.S. Not being personal Nikita. Just a personal opinion!

Alright , I was in these lectures at my college which had Durjoy Dutta and Nikita Singh. I agree that most books they've written are stupid but you have to realise that it doesn't imply a reciprocity . Those books arent meant for you, the same way Saas-Bahu serials which are inherently stupid aren't meant for you . There's a huge target audience involved , which is huge in numbers (much more than you can imagine.) She explained that the first book she wrote which was really good literary work recieved no calls from publishers . There just isn't a huge market for it right ? She's Smart, and yeah she's also pretty , but that isn't a statistically improbable combination...

There was this point of time when I went gaga over Durjoy Dutta. Writer, engineer, hadsome- what a deadly combo, I thought. Until I read one of his books (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name). I finished it in about an hour and a half and decided that it was one of the worse decisions I'd taken lately. Cheap thrill is sought after. It always has been. But the trend of engineers/lawyers/CAs and the likes, turning author is relatively new. And IMHO, it is this idea that they 'broke free of the shackles that tied them to the "regular" world' is what partly (a major part) fuels this popularity. Of course, the fact that Nikita Singh/Durjoy Dutta are pretty people only helps in increasing their fan base. That can't be the sole factor. PS- If you're looking for pretty, try Shobhaa De and Jhumpa Lahiri for starters. If you like their works, come back to me, I'll tell you names of more authors who are actually epitomes of beauty with brains! :))

Forgive me for being caustic, but I have had enough of it now and shall speak my heart out under the veil of anonymity! Chetan Bhagat started it all. He was fine, but she isn't. I do not think the likes of her, rolling out books one after another deserve the fandom they get. All they are doing is ruining the generation, exploiting the mediocrity of people and robbing them of their valuable time. Here are the reasons that prove my point. Why does one read at all? 1. To enjoy and appreciate literature - I believe that the true pleasure of reading is found in the long winded sentences of unabridged novels of Charles Dickens, in the rich characters of Bronte, in the subtleties of Dostoevsky's works, eccentricities of Arundhati Roy's character's and the cynicism of Kafka. That is what is ideally classifies as literature. The books written by authors (are we calling them that?) like the one being discussed above fail this criterion. So now we know that her writing is certainly not literature. 2. Improving language and expression: Yes, many of my friends read with this intention, till high school I too was one of them, but thankfully I am well past that stage. Once again, such books do not serve the purpose since they are almost nothing more than narrations of incidents, spiced up incidents. Don't sleep one night, just keep imaging what you would want to happen to you and your crush in the next five years. Pen it down the next morning. Lo and behold, you are an author too! If that is the intention, read the newspapers, please. 3. Living another life and the rest of reasons: We read to expand our horizons, live another life, engage our minds with beautiful things and understand the world better. The books we read influence us, shape us and to a great extent define our personalities. But the flood of books on college romances that have inundated the bookshelves of voracious readers in India fare worse than one time watch Bollywood comedies and hence their influence on the youth of India would not be a welcome development in my opinion. These books are contributing to the dulling down the current generation, giving them a wrong idea of what their priorities should be and what relationships are all about. Nobody deserves this. I cannot keep the likes of her from inflicting their unworthy opinions on you but I can definitely warn you from being influenced by it, by inflicting mine on you!

I read one of her books as a part of my market research project on the rising trend of cheap fiction in India. I finished it in 2 hours and cursed myself. Next day, I sold the book at 60% price. Chetan Bhagat has given birth to a trend that is obnoxious and misguiding. The problem doesn't end here. If someone tomorrow comes up with an idea that's different and contains less sex, he or she might be rejected right away by the publishers as it won't be promising in terms of revenue for them. Sad state of affairs.
Tushar Riddle
She is a mediocre writer just like any last bencher in any of our colleges and universities. Even I can write like her. Here is a sample: The Late Night Love Chat https://ybijoysingh.wordpress.com/corporate/ But she really has smashing looks which are further accentuated by some nice clothes and make up. 64 K fans??? Now that is easy to understad. Not only because of her pretty face, but there might be many young girls who thinks that they can become like her ...and many boys (having hots for her) who fancy they might get to talk to her, meet her ..basically on her radar... You see she is very very relatable ...something we all fancy for ...looks, money and fan following...
