Answer:
Android is based on a Linux kernel. In any Linux OS, if one has to make system level modifications, the user has to have permissions to do so. Its a security measure that prevents unauthorized users from making modifications that might break the system. So if a user wants to be able to get those permissions, he has to log in as a "root" user. This concept is similar with Android as well. When you "root" your phone, you are basically obtaining permissions to modify the system as you please. You will get access to restricted files that you can edit, and change various components of the software as well as hardware. Android rooting is just called rooting and not jailbreaking. Jailbreaking is a term usually used for "rooting" iPhones. You can experiment with all of those devices by trying out different custom Roms. Head over to http://xda-developers.com forum and look for your device. There are a lot of things you can do after rooting Android. You can also install a custom Rom on your windows phone. You'll get detailed guides on how to go about the process over at xda. Check it out.

The forums about your Android phone in XDA can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1976 haven't searched whether it can be rooted (not all phones can be rooted/and if they can it's not always easy). You have some reading to do. Examples of what you can do when rooted is remove ads in apps, backup all apps with their data, restore them easily, install mods etc. For example in my rooted Galaxy Note II I have a mod installed that lets me add more apps in the Multi Window feature. Keep in mind that rooting your device voids your warranty and if you return it back to service (even for some irrelevant hardware issue) they may deny fixing it.
